MALDON

And THE PRIVATE GARDENS OF UTLING WICK

Located in Essex on the Blackwater estuary and is probably best known as the foremost modern-day centre for Thames sailing barges.

We spend the morning and lunchtime in Maldon visiting The Hythe Quay where these distinctive boats can be seen and adjacent is Promenade Park, which provides fantastic views of the estuary.  There are plenty of pubs and cafes by the Hythe in which to enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon we make a return visit to Utling Wick home for the past 20 years of Philippa and Bryan Burrough to enjoy their summer garden. The garden is centered around three listed black Essex barns and a 7th centry farmhouse. The buildings provide structure, shelter and a canvas for exuberant, colourful and vibrant planting amoungst box-edged beds.

The reputation of Philippa and Bryan Burrough's stunning Essex garden grows from year to year, recently it was voted one of the country's top 100 gardens to visit by Garden News magazine.
